People Only Buy What They Want, Not What They Need: March 5, 2015

The March 2015 meeting of the St. Louis Product Management Group was held on Thursday, March 5, 2015:

This month’s topic: People Only Buy What They Want, Not What They Need with Steve Epner

Meetings are open to everyone — there is no charge to attend. This meeting was held at The Venture Cafe Gathering at CIC — see directions and details below. RSVPs were kindly requested (though not required) on our LinkedIn page

About the meeting: All new businesses run into the same problem. How do you sell a product or service. Without sales, there is no business. Too many of us try to sell our idea on the basis that it is so good, no sales are required. This session comes from a lecture in an MBA class at Saint Louis University that is taught by Steve Epner. He will simplify the process for mere mortals and busy executives. Even engineers and scientists (which Steve is) can understand the concepts and how to get it done. You will learn about E, F, G and H and the two questions that will tell you what to sell. Bring pen and paper as this will be an interactive session. You WILL walk away with ideas you can put into action tomorrow morning.

About the Presenter: Steve Epner is an innovator, an entrepreneur, and an all-around interesting guy. He teaches Corporate Entrepreneurship as part of the MBA program at Saint Louis University, runs the St. Louis Innovation Roundtable, and is Senior Manager, Business Accelerator for the Ventures group within at Boeing. We will explore finding the next big – or little – thing that can make you millions. Do not miss this hour – it may be the most important in your life.

About the event
This month tried a new venue and a new format. We held our meeting as part of the weekly Venture Café Gathering at CIC. Every Thursday from 3:00 – 8:00pm, The Venture Café welcomes the innovation community to “a weekly gathering of innovators and startups. A place for serendipitous collisions to occur. Each week there are roundtable discussions, information tables, office hours with thought leaders, and guest speakers relevant to the ecosystem.”

The St. Louis Product Management Group meeting was held in the Havana Room (2nd floor) from 7-7:45pm. Attendees were encouraged to arrive early to participate in other related events, along with networking and refreshments. Check the Venture Café calendar to see what other events are going on before our meeting.
